Lighting Trends

Increased lighting and strategically placed lighting can make all the difference in your home. It is one of the fastest ways to improve the look and functionality of any living space. In general, there are three types of lighting:

• Ambient lighting - a grand illuminator of the room; a great example are lights installed overhead, flush with the ceiling. The number needed depends on the size of the room.
• Task lighting - illuminates certain task areas of a room such as under- the-counter lights to brighten the area in which you are cooking.
• Accent lighting - develops an attractive focal point such as pendant lights above an island, kitchen table, vanity or display shelving.
• Letting the light in - Adding large windows, skylights and open floor plans are also options for increasing the flow of natural light into the home.
